Aaron Roberts

he/him/his

Boston, MA

Dancer, Choreographer

Aaron is relatively new to choreography, but has been a performer since he was a young child. He performed in church musicals and school concerts prior to High School. Although he stopped dancing through studio instruction, he still participated in school based musicals at Brockton High as an ensemble dancer and ensemble chorus. In 2006, Aaron enlisted into the Navy. It wasn't until 2010 that he found an adult drop-in Modern class at Dance Place San Diego. It was in this class that he fell in love again with movement.

After his separation from the Navy in 2011, he began to attend Bridgewater State University where he continued to pursue Modern dance training as a Dance minor. In the spring semester of 2015, Aaron officially became a Dance major and applied for the Adrian-Tinsley Summer Grant for Research and Creative Projects. He was awarded this grant with the help of his mentor Dr Jody Weber, and began work on The Trouble with Masculinity. This grant also allowed him to attend Bates Dance Festival at which David Parker helped give him tools to translate his research into masculinity into movement. The work he is presenting at "Near and Far" is a work in progress. The complete work will be shown in Spring of 2016 as a part of his honors thesis performance.
